Price fine art moves so conditions pay. Free, no signup. All defaults are editable starting points.
Art movers lose money on the flat per-piece phone quote. One number sounds fine until the steel walls, the stairs, the missing hardware, the travel crates, and the transit insurance all get priced at zero. Start with your bar (75), margin percent (20), minimum fee ($250), and daily goal ($500). Pick a move preset: Home move, Gallery swap, or Office lobby, each filling piece count, oversize pieces, handle minutes, and wrap materials as editable starting points. The conditions card prices the margin killers: wall type (steel adds 12 minutes, plaster 6), stairs (30 loading minutes plus a $60 helper), missing hardware (10 minutes per piece), travel crates (90 minutes plus $85 per oversize piece), and on-site install (25 minutes per piece). Drive plus miles price the trip; declared insurance value times your insurance percent prices the transit risk as a real line item. Results show handling labor, materials, vehicle, helper, insurance, true cost, the recommended quote, dollars per piece, and your effective rate against your bar. Verdicts are PRICED RIGHT, CLOSE, BUT LEAKING, WORKING TOO CHEAP, or LOSING MONEY. The gut check grades your instinct quote; the day planner turns your goal into moves. No signup; runs on your phone.
Example only, not typical pricing. Gallery swap defaults at a $75 bar with 20 percent margin: site time is 12 pieces times 20 minutes equals 240 minutes; drive adds 60 for 300 minutes, or 5.0 hours of your time valued at $75, which is $375. Wrap materials are 12 times $8 equals $96; vehicle is 40 miles at $0.67 equals $26.80; transit insurance is $50,000 times 1.5 percent equals $750. True cost is $1,247.80. Recommended quote is ceil(1,247.80 times 1.20 divided by 25) times 25 equals $1,500, or $125 per piece. Effective rate is (1,500 minus 96 minus 26.80 minus 750) divided by 5 equals $125.44 per hour, which clears the bar, so the verdict is PRICED RIGHT. A $1,000 gut quote would pay $25.44 per hour and leave $500 on the table. The day planner turns $627.20 of profit per move into 0.8 moves and 4.0 hours for a $500 goal.
Why is insurance a cost line instead of just a risk?
Transit insurance is priced as your declared value times your insurance percent, right in the breakdown. A $50,000 declared value at 1.5 percent is $750 of real exposure per move, whether or not anything breaks this time.
What fires the drive-time leak note?
When round-trip drive minutes beat site minutes. A 60-minute round trip on a 240-minute gallery swap is fine; the same drive to hang two pictures is the whole margin.
How do travel crates change the quote?
Each oversize piece gets 90 minutes of build time plus $85 in materials. Crating two oversize pieces is 3 hours and $170 that no per-piece number can cover.
What does CLOSE, BUT LEAKING mean here?
The quote clears true cost but your effective rate lands between 80 and 100 percent of your bar. Steel walls, stairs, or a long drive are usually the leak.
When does the minimum fee decide the quote?
Small moves can cost less than $250 to run. The minimum holds the quote up so the smallest jobs still cover the truck roll and setup.
