Chimney Cap Quote Check

How to use it

Flat chimney cap quotes die when the cap tier, the roof height, the measure trip, and the tear-off stay invisible. Start with Your bar: your target rate, margin percent, minimum trip fee, and daily goal. In The job card, pick a preset: Single-flue cap, Multi-flue cap, Custom chase cover, or Crown coat plus cap. Each fills cap cost, flues, and minutes, all editable, and the chase cover preset checks the measure-trip toggle. Set cap material tier and roof height: premium tiers and tall roofs multiply handling time. In The leaks card, toggle the measure trip and tear-off, then set drive, miles, vehicle cost per mile, and callback reserve percent. The breakdown shows site time, labor, vehicle, cap cost, callback reserve, true cost, and the cap billed with markup. The big number is the recommended quote: true cost plus margin, rounded up to twenty-five dollars, never below your minimum. Verdicts are PRICED RIGHT, CLOSE BUT LEAKING, WORKING TOO CHEAP, LOSING JOB, or UNDER MIN FEE. Leak notes flag measure trips, tear-offs, roof multipliers, premium tiers, missing callback reserves, drive beating site time, and thin markups. The gut check prices your old quote; the planner counts installs to your goal.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. A single-flue cap at the defaults: $75 bar, 20 percent margin, $145 galvanized cap, 45 install minutes, 40 percent markup, 50 drive minutes, 30 miles at $0.67 per mile, 5 percent callback reserve. Labor is $118.75, vehicle is $20.10, the cap is $145.00, and the callback reserve is $14.19, giving a true cost of $298.04. The recommended quote is $375, which clears the margin at $48.60 effective per hour, so the verdict is PRICED RIGHT. A $250 gut quote lands $48.04 below true cost, so the verdict is LOSING JOB. In the day planner, a $600 goal takes 8 installs, 12.7 hours. The drive-beats-site-time leak note fires: 50 drive minutes against 45 site minutes.

FAQs

Why do cap material tiers change the price?

Stainless adds 50 percent handling time and copper adds 100 percent in the tool. Premium caps install slower, so the tier multiplies install minutes.

What is the measure trip toggle for?

Custom chase covers need a separate measuring visit: 45 on-site minutes plus doubled drive. The preset checks it automatically.

Why price the tear-off?

A rusted old cap or crumbling chase cover takes real minutes at roof height. The toggle prices it at your bar instead of giving it away.

How is the callback reserve handled?

The warranty reserve percent applies to the job base. Leave it at zero and one free return trip erases the margin on a small install.

Is this pricing advice or market data?

Neither. It is an arithmetic check on your own numbers. Defaults are editable starting points, not market rates.
