Closet Quote Check

How to use it

Closet quotes die on one flat project price. The installer sees the linear feet; the quote killer is the drawer bank, where every drawer is its own box, front, and slides, plus the finish tier, design consult, and drive that never made it into the number. Start with your bar (65), profit margin percent (20), minimum project fee (500), and monthly take-home goal (5,000). Pick a project preset: Reach-in, Walk-in, or His and hers, each filling linear feet, drawer count, and helper hours as editable starting points. The drawer card prices hardware cost and build minutes per drawer; finished end panels, material dollars per foot, rods and hardware, and add-ons like lighting are separate lines. The finish tier multiplies materials for veneer or solid wood. The leaks card prices the unpaid design consult, demo of the old closet, helper hours, and drive. Results show materials, your time at your bar, true cost, the recommended quote rounded up to 50 dollars, dollars per foot, and your effective rate. The drawer-share note fires when drawers exceed 30 percent of the quote. The gut check grades your instinct quote; the month planner turns your goal into projects. No signup; runs on your phone.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. Reach-in preset at a $65 bar with 20 percent margin: materials are 6 times $180 laminate plus 4 drawers times $65 hardware plus 2 end panels times $120 plus $80 rods plus $150 add-ons equals $1,810. Time is 90 design minutes plus 7.0 install hours plus 50 drive minutes, or 9.33 own hours at $65, which is $606.67 of labor. Helper is 2 hours at $22 equals $44. Vehicle is 40 miles at $0.67 equals $26.80. True cost is $1,810 plus $606.67 plus $44 plus $26.80 equals $2,487.47. Recommended quote is max(500, 2,487.47 x 1.20) rounded up to $50 equals $3,000, or $500 per foot. Effective rate is (3,000 minus 1,810 minus 26.80 minus 44) divided by 9.33 equals $119.91 per hour, which clears the bar, so the verdict is PRICED RIGHT. A $2,000 gut quote would pay $12.77 per hour and leave $1,000 on the table. The month planner turns $512.53 of profit per project into 9.8 projects and 91 hours for a $5,000 month. Price the drawers, not the walls.

FAQs

Why is each drawer priced separately?

A drawer is a box, a front, and a set of slides: three cost lines, not one. Trimming drawers to hit a budget should take money off the hardware, not your labor, so price the bank from the hardware line.

What fires the drawer-share note?

Drawers above 30 percent of the quote. At that point the job is a drawer job with a closet around it; cutting scope should cut drawers, not hours.

Why does the finish tier multiply materials?

Veneer and solid wood cost more and take more finish time. The multiplier prices the upgrade instead of letting it ride on laminate math.

What does the design-consult line cover?

Measure visits and unpaid design hours. The quote that forgets the consult prices the install and donates the design.

When does the minimum project fee decide the quote?

Tiny reach-ins with laminate math can land under $500. The fee holds the quote up so small projects still cover design and drive.
