How many flips for your goal?

How to use it

Buy price minus sale price is not your profit, and that is where most resellers lose money without knowing it. This calculator forces every real cost into the open. Start with your bars: the minimum hourly rate you will work for and the minimum profit per item you will accept. Both are editable starting points, and every preset can be changed.

Enter the item: what you paid, any repair or cleaning cost, the price you plan to list it for, what you charge the buyer for shipping versus what it really costs you, and supply costs like mailers, bubble wrap, and labels. Pick your selling platform and the calculator applies the fee. Set the fee yourself if your category charges more, since fees change by category. Then enter sourcing miles at your vehicle cost and the real minutes for sourcing, cleaning, listing, and packing. Your numbers never leave your phone.

Worked example

Example only, not typical earnings. You buy a jacket for $15, spend $9.50 to ship, $1.50 on supplies, drive 18 miles round trip at $0.67 per mile, and sell it on eBay for $49.99 with a 13 percent fee plus $0.30 per order. Fees, shipping, supplies, and the drive total about $29.86 on top of your buy price, so the flip nets about $5.13 in cash. With 80 minutes of your time on the item that is about $3.85 per hour. Against a $25 per hour bar and a $10 per item bar, the verdict fires THIN FLIP and tells you the price needs to be about $78.20 to clear both bars.

FAQs

What do eBay fees look like for resellers?

Final value fees vary by category but most goods sit near 13 percent of the total sale including shipping charged to the buyer, plus a small per-order fee. Category rates change over time, so confirm your category rate in your seller dashboard and enter the real number here.

Should I count my time as a cost?

Yes if you want to know whether flipping beats an hourly job. Most flippers only feel profitable because their own hours are priced at zero. Enter your real minutes per item and your bar rate so the math shows the true hourly pay.

What is a good profit per item?

Many part-time flippers use a $10 to $15 per item minimum so the item is worth the listing, packing, and storage time. Low-dollar items only work in volume. Use the monthly goal planner to see how many items at this profit actually reach your target.

Do sourcing miles really matter?

Yes. An 18 mile round trip at $0.67 per mile is about $12, which can erase the profit on a small flip entirely. Sourcing runs get cheap when you buy many items per trip, because the miles get spread across everything you bring home.

What about items that never sell?

Dead inventory is a hidden tax. Every item sitting for months ties up cash and storage. If a category sits, factor the loss in your monthly math: take your monthly profit goal and subtract the buy cost of items that will never sell, then check whether the winners still cover it.
