How to use it

Ice machine subscriptions die on the $300 a month guess. The machine, the install, the cleanings, the filters, the breakdowns, and the drive all come out of one monthly number the guess barely prices. Start with your bar (75), profit margin percent (25), and monthly take-home goal (4,000). Pick a machine: Undercounter 300 lb, 500 lb workhorse, or 1000 lb hotel, each filling purchase cost, term, and install. The visits card prices PM visits, minutes per visit, cleaning minutes, filter changes times cost, and consumables per year. The leaks card prices breakdown calls with parts cost and repair minutes, a hard-water toggle that doubles filters and adds one cleaning visit, and drive minutes plus miles. Results show the machine amortized per month, insurance, your labor and cost per month, parts per month, drive cost per month, true monthly cost, your hours per machine, the recommended monthly price rounded up to 25 dollars, and your effective rate. PRICED RIGHT needs the price at 115 percent of true cost and your effective rate at your bar. The gut check grades your instinct price; the fleet planner turns your goal into machines with an over-160-hour flag. No signup; runs on your phone.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. 500 lb workhorse at a $75 bar with 25 percent margin: machine amortization is (4,500 plus 250) divided by 48 equals $98.96 per month; insurance is $20. Site minutes are 4 PM visits times 135 minutes plus 1.2 breakdowns times 120 minutes equals 684 per year; drive is 5.2 visits times 50 round-trip minutes equals 261 per year, for 15.75 hours per year at $75 equals $98.44 per month. Parts are 2 filters times $60 plus $80 consumables plus 1.2 breakdowns times $120 equals $28.67 per month. Drive is 157 miles times $0.67 equals $8.78 per month, plus $0.39 of amortized install labor. True cost is $98.96 plus $20 plus $98.44 plus $28.67 plus $8.78 plus $0.39 equals $255.24 per month. Recommended monthly price is ceil(255.24 times 1.25 divided by 25) times 25 equals $325. Effective rate is $128.45 per hour, which clears the bar, so the verdict is PRICED RIGHT. A $300 gut price would pay $109.40 per hour and sit $25 short of the target. The fleet planner turns $69.76 of profit per machine into 57.3 machines and 75.3 hours per month for a $4,000 goal.

FAQs

Why does the verdict require two tests?

PRICED RIGHT needs the price at 115 percent of true cost and your effective rate at your bar. Passing only one means the margin looks fine but your hours are unpaid, or vice versa.

What does the hard-water toggle change?

It doubles filter changes and adds one cleaning visit per year. Hard water is the difference between two filter swaps and four; the toggle prices the minerals.

How is the machine amortized?

Purchase cost plus install parts are divided by the term in months, and the install labor is spread the same way. The machine rides in every month's price, not just month one.

What does the fleet planner flag at 160 hours?

More than one full-time route of maintenance. When the plan crosses 160 hours a month, the tool says price higher instead of stacking weak accounts.

Why do drive minutes include the install trip?

The install drive is spread over the term, and every visit is round-tripped. Distance is the line that turns a good account into a bad one.
