Mount Quote Check

How to use it

TV mount jobs die on the flat per-TV quote. A $119 basic-mount price looks fine until the wire concealment, the soundbar, the brick wall, and the 40-minute round trip quietly erase the margin. Start with your bar: the minimum dollars per hour you will work for (75), plus a daily take-home goal. Pick a job preset: Basic mount ($119, 60 minutes, no wire work), Fireplace ($199, 120 minutes, in-wall wire), or Brick wall ($189, 90 minutes, raceway), each editable. Tick the mount-supply box if the mount comes out of your pocket instead of the customer's. The leaks card takes wire concealment style and fee, soundbars and extra devices at your fee and minutes each, drive round-trip minutes, and miles at your vehicle cost per mile. Results show the quoted price, labor plus drive at your rate, vehicle cost, true cost, and profit, plus the recommended quote (true cost rounded up to $25) and your true dollars per hour. Verdicts are PRICED RIGHT, CLOSE, BUT LEAKING, WORKING TOO CHEAP, or LOSING MONEY. The gut check grades your instinct quote, and the day planner turns your goal into jobs. No signup; runs on your phone.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. Basic mount plus one soundbar, and you supply the $45 mount. Quoted price = $119 + $60 = $179. Labor is 60 install minutes plus 30 soundbar minutes = 1.5 hours; drive is 40 minutes = 0.67 hours; committed time is 2.17 hours. Vehicle cost is 30 x $0.67 = $20.10. True cost = 1.5 x 75 + 0.67 x 75 + 20.10 + 45 = $227.60. Recommended quote = ceil(227.60 / 25) x 25 = $250. Effective rate = (179 - 20.10 - 45) / 2.17 = $52.57 per hour. That is below the $75 bar and the quote does not cover true cost, so the verdict is LOSING MONEY. A $119 gut quote for the mount alone would pay even less; the soundbar and the mount each need their own line on the invoice.

FAQs

Why does the tool subtract the mount cost from my effective rate?

Because you paid for it. The effective rate measures what the quoted dollars pay you after vehicle cost and supplied mounts, so customer-supplied versus installer-supplied hardware never silently eats your hours.

How should I price wire concealment?

Match the style to the work. Raceway is cheap and quick; in-wall is slow and should carry a real fee. The presets fill fees per job type, and the wire minutes keep the math honest either way.

Should the soundbar be part of the TV price?

No. Each soundbar gets its own fee and minutes, because 30 minutes on a soundbar is 30 minutes you are not mounting another TV.

What does CLOSE, BUT LEAKING mean?

The quote covers true cost but the effective rate sits within 20 percent below your bar. The sub line tells you to charge the recommended quote, which is the exact number that clears it.

How does the day planner use my goal?

It divides your daily take-home goal by profit per job. If the job loses money, the planner refuses and says fix the job first, because more losing jobs only lose more.
