Your market

Enter the going rate for one child where you live. Check recent nanny-wanted ads on Care.com, UrbanSitter, or Sittercity for your area. This is the base everything builds on.

Each extra child is real work. $1-2/hr per additional child is the common convention. Adjust to your market.

Guaranteed hours: the industry standard is you get paid for your scheduled hours even if the family needs you less one week. Get it in writing.
Overtime: under federal law, live-out nannies are generally owed 1.5x past 40 hrs/week. Live-in nannies are exempt from federal OT, but some states differ. This is information, not legal advice.

How to use it

Your rate should come from your market, not a guess or a friend's number. Start with the going rate for one child in your area: check recent nanny-wanted ads on Care.com, UrbanSitter, or Sittercity and enter that as your base. Then add the kids: each extra child beyond the first adds the per-child bump (the default is $1.50/hr, editable to your market). Pick the experience preset closest to you (0-2 years adds $0, 3-5 adds $1, 6-9 adds $2.50, 10+ adds $4), or type your own bump. Extra duties are the number-one undercharging trap, so check off anything beyond childcare: household cleaning and laundry, cooking family meals, driving kids, and tutoring all carry their own hourly add-ons, and every add-on is editable. Set a schedule premium (evenings and weekends default to +$2) and your weekly hours. Toggle nanny share to see what two families pay when they split you (convention: each pays about 2/3 of your solo rate). The results show your fair hourly rate, weekly, monthly (weekly x 52 / 12), and annual pay, plus an overtime warning when hours pass 40. Defaults are common conventions, not quotes; your market decides.

Worked example

Example only, not typical rates. Say the going rate for one child in your area is $20/hr. For two kids you add $1.50, your 6-9 years of experience adds $2.50, and cooking family meals adds $1.50. Your rate comes out to $25.50/hr. At 40 hours a week that is $1,020 weekly, about $4,420 monthly (weekly x 52 / 12), and $53,040 annually. Toggle nanny share and each family pays about $17/hr (2/3 of your rate) while your combined rate is $34/hr.
