How to use it

Set your bar first: the minimum dollars per hour you will work for, $60 by default. Pick a ceremony preset, Elopement or signing, Standard, or Full custom, which fill in a typical fee and all six hour buckets, or enter your own. The hour fields are where officiants leak money: ceremony day hours, script writing hours, consult and meeting hours, rehearsal hours, round-trip travel time, and admin hours for license paperwork and filing, which the tool notes most officiants forget. Enter round-trip travel miles with $0.70 per mile as the default starting point, plus other costs like parking, mic rental, or printing. The results card shows the fee, travel cost, other costs, what you keep, and total real hours, with your true hourly rate as the big number. The verdict reads PRICED RIGHT at or above your bar, CLOSE BUT LEAKING near it with the exact fee that hits your rate, or UNDERPRICED below it. The income goal card turns a monthly take-home goal into ceremonies per month needed at this price.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. Take the Standard preset: $450 fee, 2 ceremony hours plus 4 script plus 2 consult plus 1.5 rehearsal plus 1 travel plus 0.5 admin, or 11 real hours. Travel is 40 miles at $0.70, or $28, plus $25 other costs, for $53 in costs. You keep $397, so the true rate is $397 over 11 hours, or $36.09 per hour, against a $60 bar: UNDERPRICED. To hit $60 an hour you would need 60 times 11 plus $53, or $713. With a $2,000 monthly goal, you need $2,000 over $397, or 5.1 ceremonies a month at this price.

FAQs

Why are script hours the silent killer?

A custom ceremony can take 4 to 8 hours of writing on a $450 fee, which is most of the job. The verdict calls this out by name, because officiants who count only the ceremony day massively overstate their hourly rate.

Elopements or full ceremonies?

The presets let you compare directly: an elopement at $175 with about 3 hours versus a full custom at $800 with about 21.5. Run both and compare the true hourly rate, not the headline fee.

Should I bill for travel?

Yes, both kinds. Travel time goes in the hour buckets and miles go at your cost per mile, $0.70 by default. A venue an hour away costs you two hours plus gas before the ceremony starts.

How do I raise my fee without guessing?

The CLOSE BUT LEAKING verdict gives the exact fee that hits your bar at your current hours. That number is your next price; it is computed from your own inputs, not a market average.

Weddings are seasonal. How do I plan income?

The income goal card shows ceremonies per month needed at your price. Use it to see what peak months must cover, then save for the slow season instead of spending it all in October.
