Rover takes a 20% service fee on booking earnings (not on tips - you keep 100% of tips). Holiday premiums are set by you in your Rover profile. Fee policies change, so confirm Rover's current terms before relying on this for pricing decisions.

How to use it

Rover shows your listed rate, but you keep 80% of it after the platform's 20% service fee, while tips pass through to you at 100%. This calculator bridges that gap. Pick your service: Boarding or House sitting (priced per night), Drop-in (per visit), Dog walk (per walk), or Daycare (per day). Enter your listed rate and the number of units, add any tips, and toggle holiday booking if it applies, with your holiday premium percent (25% is the default starting point; set it to what your Rover profile actually charges). The breakdown shows the booking total, Rover's 20% cut, what you keep from the booking, and your tips separately, plus a big take-home number and your effective rate per unit after fees. The reverse mode works backwards: enter the per-unit amount you want to take home and it tells you what to list your rate at, which is your target divided by 0.8. Fee policies change, so confirm Rover's current terms before relying on this for pricing decisions. No signup, runs on your phone.

Worked example

Example only, not typical earnings. Boarding at $50 per night for 3 nights with a 25% holiday premium and $20 in tips. The booking total is $50 x 3 x 1.25 = $187.50. Rover's 20% fee is $37.50, so you keep $150 from the booking. Add the $20 tip, which is 100% yours, for a total take-home of $170, or $56.67 per night after fees. In reverse mode, wanting $40 per night take-home means listing at $40 / 0.8 = $50 per night.

FAQs

What does Rover actually take?

Rover takes a 20% service fee on booking earnings. Tips are separate: you keep 100% of them. Fee policies change over time, so confirm Rover's current terms before making pricing decisions.

Do I keep all of my tips?

Yes. The 20% fee applies to the booking total only, not to tips clients give you. The calculator adds tips on top after the fee is taken out.

How does holiday pricing work?

You set a holiday rate premium in your Rover profile, and holiday bookings pay your rate plus that premium. The calculator applies whatever percentage you enter, with 25% as the default.

Should I raise my rates to cover the fee?

Use the reverse mode. Enter the take-home you want per unit and it shows the list rate that clears it after the 20% fee. That is simply your target divided by 0.8.

Is pet sitting income taxable?

Generally yes, but this is general information, not tax advice. Keep records of what you earn and what fees the platform takes, and talk to a tax professional about reporting.
