Serve Price Check

How to use it

Process serving quotes collapse on attempts. A flat fee looks fine until the third drive across town, so this calculator prices every serve from expected attempts, miles, and your hourly bar. Start with the minimum dollars per hour you will work for (75). Pick a preset: Routine ($75 fee, 3 attempts), Rush ($150, 2 attempts), Same-day ($200, 2 attempts), or Stakeout ($120, 1 attempt). All presets are editable starting points. Enter the quoted base fee, expected attempts, minutes per attempt, round-trip miles per attempt, and vehicle cost per mile (0.67). The extra-address toggle adds its fee and minutes; the stakeout toggle adds its fee and hours. Printing and affidavit ($5) is built in. Every serve gets 20 minutes of admin for the affidavit, logging, and client comms, added automatically. Results show a line-item breakdown, the recommended quote (true cost rounded up to the nearest $25), your true dollars per hour at the gut quote, and verdicts: LOSING MONEY under true cost, WORKING TOO CHEAP with the dollars left on the table, or PRICED FAIRLY. The week planner shows take-home per serve and serves needed for your weekly goal. No signup; your numbers never leave your phone.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. Routine preset: 3 attempts x 40 minutes + 20 admin = 140 minutes = 2.33 hours. Mileage = 3 x 22 x 0.67 = $44.22. True cost = 2.33 x 75 + 44.22 + 5 = $224.22, so the recommended quote is $225. A $75 gut quote pays (75 - 44.22 - 5) / 2.33 = $11.05 per hour, which does not even cover true cost, so the verdict is LOSING MONEY. Take-home per serve at the recommended quote = 225 - 44.22 - 5 = $175.78. A $1,500 weekly goal needs 1,500 / 175.78 = 8.53, rounded up to 9 serves, which is 21.0 committed hours.

FAQs

**Q** Why does the tool count expected attempts instead of one?

Because the first attempt rarely completes a serve. If you quote one attempt and it takes three, you drive three times and get paid once. Budget the attempts you actually expect.

**Q** Should rush pricing be a multiplier or a flat fee?

The presets fill a higher fee and fewer attempts for rush and same-day work. Adjust the fee to your market; the attempts field keeps the math honest either way.

**Q** What is the 20 minutes of admin?

The affidavit of service, attempt logging, and client comms that every serve requires. The tool adds it automatically because it is never zero.

**Q** Do I bill mileage separately or bake it in?

The recommended quote bakes it in, so you are covered either way. If clients prefer a base-plus-mileage split, use the mileage line as your number.

**Q** How do I price a serve with two addresses?

Use the extra-address toggle and fill its fee and extra minutes. It lands on the breakdown and in the recommended quote.
