Screen Quote Check

How to use it

Screen jobs die on the per-screen number. Quoting $25 a screen sounds clean until the truck rolls for two screens and the drive eats the day. Start with your bar (60), margin percent (20), minimum trip fee ($85), and daily goal ($400). Pick a job preset: Few torn, Whole house, or Rental refresh, each filling re-screen and new-frame counts, mesh type, and minutes per screen as editable starting points. The mesh card prices fiberglass, pet-proof, and solar mesh with a time multiplier for the harder meshes, plus a tall checkbox for second-story screens. Materials count mesh plus spline per screen and frame plus hardware per new frame. Getting there counts round-trip drive, miles, vehicle cost, and a 20-minute setup. Results show your time, materials, vehicle, true cost, the recommended quote (cost plus margin, rounded up to $25, never below the minimum trip fee), dollars per screen, and your effective rate. Verdicts are PRICED RIGHT, CLOSE, BUT LEAKING, WORKING TOO CHEAP, or LOSING MONEY. The gut check grades your instinct total; the day planner turns your goal into jobs. No signup; runs on your phone.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. Few torn preset at a $60 bar with 20 percent margin: 5 re-screens at 20 minutes plus 1 new frame at 40 minutes, fiberglass at $4 mesh plus spline, $12 frame plus hardware, 40 drive minutes, 30 miles at $0.67. Committed time is (100 + 40 + 20 setup + 40 drive) / 60 = 3.33 hours at $60 = $200. Materials are 5 x 4 + 1 x 16 = $36; vehicle is $20.10. True cost is $256.10, or $42.68 per screen. Recommended quote is max(256.10 x 1.20, 85), rounded up to $25 = $325, or $54.17 per screen. Effective rate is $325 / 3.33 = $97.50 per hour, which clears the bar, so the verdict is PRICED RIGHT. A $150 gut quote would pay $45 per hour, grade WORKING TOO CHEAP, and leave $175 on the table. The day planner turns $325 per job into 2 jobs and 6.7 hours for a $400 goal.

FAQs

Why does the minimum trip fee decide small jobs?

With 1 or 2 screens, drive and setup beat the mesh price. The minimum fee is the floor, not the per-screen math.
