$ Winterize Quote Check

Independent marine techs: per-boat winterization quotes that price the engine, the systems, the wrap, and the drive. Free, no signup. All defaults are editable starting points, not market rates.

Your numbers

The boat

Every system with water in it is its own drain, flush, and antifreeze run. Marinas bill them per system for a reason.

Materials and wrap

Antifreeze, oil and filter, gear lube, stabilizer, fogging oil, drain washers. At cost is money out of your pocket.

The leaks

One cracked block comeback in spring can erase a month of winterize profit. The reserve spreads that risk across every boat.

How to use it

Winterization pricing dies when the flat package price ignores what is actually on the boat. A sterndrive is not an outboard, a boat with a generator, air conditioning, and a freshwater system is not a bare hull, and shrink wrap is billed by the foot at every marina for a reason. This calculator prices the job the way the work actually happens.

Enter your target hourly rate and margin, pick the engine preset closest to the boat, and set the length. Count every extra system that holds water: air conditioning, head, freshwater, livewell, washdown. Add your real materials cost with a markup, turn on shrink wrap if you wrap, and set the drive, because mobile winterizing means half the day can be windshield time. The reserve line spreads the cost of one spring freeze-damage comeback across the whole season. The tool turns it into a true per-boat cost, a recommended quote, and your effective hourly rate on any flat price you were about to give.

Worked example

Example only, not typical pricing. A 24-foot sterndrive at an $85 target rate: 150 engine minutes plus 2 systems at 20 minutes and 144 wrap minutes is 334 minutes of site labor, $95 of engine materials at a 25 percent markup, $108 of wrap material, a 40-minute drive, and a 5 percent comeback reserve. True cost is $787.06 and the recommended quote is $950, paying $117.15 an hour after materials and vehicle. A $600 flat quote pays $61.00 an hour and sits $187.06 below true cost.

FAQs

Why do marinas price winterization per engine and per system?

Because the work scales that way. Each engine needs its own drain, flush, fog, and oil service, and each plumbed system needs its own antifreeze run. A twin-engine cruiser with a generator is three winterizations plus systems, not one boat price.

Should shrink wrap be priced per foot?

Yes. Film, strapping, vents, and door materials all scale with length, and so does the labor. A per-foot material and labor rate keeps a 34-footer from being priced like a 19-footer.

What is the freeze-damage comeback reserve for?

If a block cracks in spring, the argument lands on whoever winterized it. A small reserve percentage on every job builds the fund before it happens instead of taking one comeback out of a single month.

Is mobile winterizing worth pricing differently from shop work?

Mobile work carries drive time and vehicle cost on every boat. Price the round trip in, or batch boats by marina so one drive covers several jobs.

Are these rates what I should charge?

No. Every default is an editable starting point for your own math, not a market rate. Your area, engine mix, and season length decide the real numbers.
