Steps
Heat the oven to 375 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment. In a large bowl, mash the drained black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some chunks for texture.
Stir in the rolled oats, beaten egg, finely diced onion, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, and soy sauce until evenly mixed. Rest 10 minutes so the oats absorb moisture.
Form the mixture into 4 patties about 3/4 inch thick. Place on the lined sheet and brush the tops lightly with the oil.
Bake 10 minutes, flip carefully with a spatula, then bake 10-12 minutes more, until the patties are firm at the edges and lightly browned.
Serve on the buns with sliced tomato and lettuce. The patties keep 4 days in the fridge and freeze well for a month.
