Steps
Bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt it with the salt.
Cook the spaghetti until just al dente, 8-10 minutes. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water, then drain.
Meanwhile, melt the butter with the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the garlic and red pepper flakes; cook 30-60 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
Add 1/2 cup of the reserved pasta water and swirl until it forms a glossy sauce.
Toss in the pasta and the parmesan, adding more pasta water a splash at a time until the sauce clings to the noodles.
Off the heat, stir in the juice of the lemon, the parsley, and the black pepper. Serve with extra parmesan.
